Pakistan secured a dominant 90-run victory over Australia in the second T20 of the three-match series at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, taking a commanding 2-0 lead. The win marked Pakistan’s first T20 series triumph over Australia in seven years.
Batting First:
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha, after winning the toss, opted to bat first. The Green Shirts posted a formidable 198/5 in 20 overs, thanks to brilliant innings from Salman Agha (76 off 40 balls) and Usman Khan, who scored 53 off 36 balls. Shadab Khan contributed 28 runs, while Muhammad Nawaz remained unbeaten on 9.
Earlier, Pakistan’s top order struggled as Sahibzada Farhan fell for 5 and Babar Azam managed only 2, but the middle order resurrected the innings with aggressive batting and smart strike rotation.
Australia’s Response:
Chasing 199, Australia failed to cope with Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack and spinners’ wizardry. Cameron Green (35) and Matthew Short (27) were the only batsmen to offer resistance. The visitors were bowled out for 108 runs in 15.4 overs.
For Pakistan, Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan claimed 3 wickets each. Usman Tariq took 2, while Saim Ayub and Muhammad Nawaz chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Team Changes and Strategy:
Pakistan made three changes in the XI for the match, bringing in Usman Tariq, Faheem Ashraf, and Naseem Shah while resting Shaheen Shah Afridi, Salman Mirza, and Fakhar Zaman.
The win puts Pakistan in a commanding position in the series, with only one match remaining. Fans celebrated the victory as a historic triumph, ending a seven-year wait to beat Australia in a T20 series.
