Pakistan-IMF Talks: Government Assures No Mini-Budget, Tax Shortfall to Be Covered Through Legal Measures

According to sources, representatives from the IMF, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will participate in the upcoming discussions regarding Pakistan’s next loan installment.

The FBR has informed the IMF about its plan to cover the ₹605 billion tax shortfall, assuring that no mini-budget will be introduced. Instead, the government aims to recover the shortfall by expediting pending tax cases in courts.

To support this effort, the government has pledged full cooperation in resolving tax-related litigation. Sources confirm that Pakistan’s Chief Justice has also approved the request for prioritizing tax case hearings.

These developments come as Pakistan continues negotiations with the IMF, seeking to meet economic targets while avoiding additional financial burdens on the public.
