Pakistan Railways Announces 20% Fare Cut for Eid Travelers

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has announced a 20% reduction in train fares for Eidul Fitr, bringing relief to passengers traveling during the festive season. According to a statement issued on Saturday, the discount will apply to all mail, express, and intercity passenger trains.

The fare reduction will be valid for all three days of Eid but will not apply to the special Eid trains. "This initiative is a source of joy for travelers across the country," the railway ministry stated, emphasizing that the move aims to facilitate the public amid rising travel demand.

Special Eid Train Operations

To accommodate increased passenger traffic, Pakistan Railways (PR) has planned four special Eid trains. These include a service from Quetta to Peshawar via Sibbi, Sukkur/Rohri, Khanewal, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.

PR Chief Executive Officer Amir Ali Baloch confirmed that the Eid operation will commence on March 28, with three special trains departing before Eid and one on the third day of Eid.

Enhanced Security Measures for Train Operations

Meanwhile, in light of recent security threats, the National Assembly was informed that security for trains in Balochistan has been significantly strengthened following the terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express. Minister of State for Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani stated that Quetta railway station will be fenced, and security personnel onboard Balochistan-bound trains have been increased from 13 to 22 per train.

Additionally, Federal Minister Abbasi announced that drone surveillance will be introduced for train operations in Balochistan, while CCTV cameras are being installed at railway stations and other sensitive locations across the country to enhance safety.

Pakistan Railways reassured passengers that all security measures and service quality standards would be strictly maintained during the Eid travel period.
