Pakistan rejects ‘one-sided’ remarks by British diplomat on Pak-Afghan border tensions

Pakistan has strongly criticised recent remarks by a British diplomat regarding the situation along the Pak-Afghan border, describing them as “one-sided” and lacking a full understanding of the complex security dynamics in the region.

According to the Pakistan Foreign Office, the comments made by the British Special Representative for Afghanistan were based on incomplete information and did not account for the ongoing challenges Pakistan faces from cross-border terrorism and infiltration attempts.

The diplomatic response came after the British envoy expressed concern over reported violence and civilian casualties in eastern Afghanistan, urging restraint and dialogue. Pakistan, however, rejected the claims, stating that allegations of civilian harm from its operations lack credible evidence.

Officials highlighted that Pakistan has exercised restraint despite continued attacks and infiltration attempts originating from Afghan territory. The Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan’s actions are targeted and aimed at neutralising terrorist threats while avoiding civilian harm.

The statement also emphasised that ignoring the root causes of instability—particularly terrorism—leads to an imbalanced narrative that does not reflect realities on the ground. Pakistan urged international stakeholders to adopt a more informed and objective perspective when commenting on regional security matters.

The government further stressed its commitment to regional peace but maintained that safeguarding national security remains a top priority in the face of ongoing threats.
