TRADE & ECONOMY

Pakistan’s information technology (IT) sector has achieved a historic milestone, with exports climbing to $366 million in September 2025, the highest-ever monthly figure recorded in the country’s history. According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), IT exports grew significantly compared to $292 million in the same month last year, reflecting the sector’s continued expansion and resilience amid global economic challenges. During the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025–26, total IT exports reached $1.057 billion, marking a robust 21% increase from $877 million recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The report further revealed that IT exports primarily comprise telecommunications, computer, and information services, which have collectively driven Pakistan’s digital growth and global competitiveness. Industry analysts attribute this surge to increased software development, digital freelancing, and technology outsourcing services provided to international clients — particularly from North America, the Middle East, and Europe. Experts believe the upward trend could continue as the government focuses on digital transformation, tax incentives, and export facilitation policies to support the booming tech sector. Pakistan’s IT industry has emerged as one of the country’s fastest-growing export segments, playing a key role in strengthening foreign exchange reserves and creating high-skilled employment opportunities.
