Pakistan’s Weekly Inflation Rises for Fourth Consecutive Week

PBS report reveals that inflation rose by 0.22% during the week, bringing the annual weekly inflation rate to 5.03%.

During the week, the prices of 20 essential items increased, 6 items saw a decrease, while 25 items remained unchanged.

According to the detailed report, the price of onions surged by Rs. 5.81 per kilogram, eggs by Rs. 7 per dozen, sugar by Rs. 3.77 per kilogram, and garlic by Rs. 3.84 per kilogram. The cost of tomatoes also rose slightly by 92 paise per kilogram.

Essential commodities such as fresh milk, lentils, and baby milk also recorded price hikes, adding pressure on household budgets.

Meanwhile, some relief was seen in other categories — chicken became cheaper by Rs. 8.24 per kilogram, and the price of domestic LPG cylinders declined by Rs. 3.78. Items like moong dal, wheat flour, and jaggery also registered minor decreases.

The continued rise in inflation reflects persistent challenges in the cost of living, particularly for low- and middle-income households, as fluctuating food and energy prices drive short-term economic pressure.
