Peshawar High Court Upholds Military Court Sentences for Banned Organization Members

The Peshawar High Court has upheld the sentences handed down by a military court to three individuals convicted of crimes linked to a banned organization.

The ruling came after a bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Fazal Subhan heard appeals challenging the military court's sentences. During the proceedings, the Additional Attorney General presented arguments that the accused were members of a banned organization and had confessed to their crimes in front of a magistrate.

The Additional Attorney General further emphasized that the military court had adhered to all legal requirements, including ensuring the right to appeal and providing the accused with the opportunity to choose their legal representation.

After reviewing the case, the Peshawar High Court dismissed all three appeals and upheld the original sentences. The convicted individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment, 20 years, and 16 years, respectively.

This ruling comes shortly after the Supreme Court's decision on May 7, which reinstated the Army Act in its original form, affirming the legality of military trials in certain cases.
