TRADE & ECONOMY

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan and Iran are taking concrete steps to increase bilateral trade volume to $10 billion, aiming to deepen economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
PM Sharif made these remarks during his official visit to Tehran, following his trip to Turkey. He also paid rich tribute to late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, calling him a “visionary, dignified, and thoughtful leader.”
“The decisions made between me and President Raisi were implemented successfully,” said PM Sharif.
The premier said he was visiting Iran at the invitation of newly elected President Masoud Pazishkian, and that the goal of the visit was to enhance mutual cooperation, particularly in trade, security, and regional development.
He noted that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran had already reached $3 billion, and both sides were now working to increase this to $10 billion in the coming years.
“Talks are underway for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which will open new avenues for economic growth,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of regional cooperation, PM Sharif said improved economic connectivity between Balochistan and Sistan will be a key driver of prosperity and counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
He added:
“Pakistan and Iran stand with each other through thick and thin. Our relations are stronger and more stable than ever.”
The Prime Minister also appreciated Iran’s offer to mediate during recent Pakistan-India tensions, stating that Pakistan accepted the proposal, but India declined the offer.
