Police Foil Terror Attack in Bannu, Kill Three TTP Militants

A major terrorist attack was averted late Friday night when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police foiled an attempt by militants to target the Mazanga police checkpost in Bannu, killing all three attackers on the spot.

According to an official statement issued on Saturday, the terrorists — identified as members of Fitna-al-Khawarij, a term used by the state for the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — tried to ram a rickshaw loaded with explosives into the checkpost.

Police officials intercepted the vehicle after spotting suspicious activity. When the militants refused to stop, officers opened fire, triggering an explosion that killed all three terrorists instantly.

Fortunately, no police personnel were injured, though the blast caused minor damage to nearby houses, the statement added.

Following the operation, Bannu DIG Sajjad Khan and DPO Saleem Abbas Kalachi praised the police team for their swift and courageous response, calling it “an exemplary display of duty, bravery, and professionalism.”

They announced cash rewards and appreciation certificates for the officers stationed at the Mazanga checkpost, commending their vigilance and commitment to public safety.

“The Bannu police is fully committed to protecting the lives and property of the people at all costs,” the official statement read.

Pakistan has witnessed a renewed wave of terrorist activity in recent months, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Just two days prior, the Pakistan Army reported killing 34 “India-backed” terrorists during multiple counterterrorism operations across KP, underscoring the growing intensity of militant threats in the region.
