Power Breakdown at Dhabeji Pumping Station Causes Major Water Supply Disruption to Karachi

A significant power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station in Thatta has resulted in the shutdown of three pumps, disrupting water supply to Karachi. The incident was triggered by a rupture in a 72-inch diameter pipeline, specifically pipeline number 5, which is responsible for supplying vital water resources to the city.

According to the Waterboard, the rupture occurred due to back pressure of water, leading to the suspension of over 18 million gallons of water that typically flows to Karachi. The disruption is expected to create significant water shortages across the city as repair work is underway.

Authorities estimate that the necessary repairs will take between 24 to 36 hours to complete. During this period, residents of Karachi may face considerable challenges regarding water availability.

Efforts are being made to restore the water supply as quickly as possible, with teams actively working on the pipeline repairs. Residents are urged to conserve water during this time to mitigate the impact of the shortages.
