PPP Gives Azad Kashmir PM Anwarul Haq 2pm Deadline to Resign Amid No-Confidence Push

The political situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has intensified as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) issued a deadline to Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq to resign by 2pm today, warning that a no-confidence motion would be tabled immediately afterward.

According to sources, the PPP has claimed the backing of 36 members in the legislative assembly and is confident of securing the numbers required to unseat the prime minister.

Meanwhile, PM Anwarul Haq has decided to fight the no-confidence motion, reiterating his earlier statement that, “If anyone has the numbers, they should bring a no-confidence motion.”

The move comes a day after the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) reached an agreement to file a joint motion of no-confidence against the AJK premier.

A meeting of the PML-N’s parliamentary party and its federal committee was also held today to finalize the strategy. Senior PML-N leaders Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Kashmir Affairs Minister Engineer Amir Muqam attended the session alongside PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir, former PM Raja Farooq Haider Khan, and other key members.

Sources revealed that the PML-N has decided not to vote for the PPP’s candidate for the new leader of the house, though it will support the no-confidence motion to oust Anwarul Haq.

“The no-confidence motion is one matter; the election of the new leader of the house is another,” a PML-N insider said, clarifying that the party will back the motion for change but will not join the new government formed by the PPP.

The PML-N meeting also reviewed the future political strategy for Azad Kashmir, including upcoming elections. The Political Coordination Committee briefed participants on the formula agreed upon with the PPP and sought further input from AJK leadership.

According to sources, the committee will brief Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif upon his return to Pakistan regarding the evolving situation and coordination with the PPP in AJK.

Political observers note that the unfolding scenario indicates an in-house change in Azad Kashmir’s power structure, with both major parties maneuvering for greater control ahead of the next elections.
