PPP Leader Nadeem Afzal Chan Criticizes Supreme Court's Reserved Seats Decision, Advocates for PTI's Ban

Nadeem Afzal Chan, a prominent leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has expressed strong criticism regarding the Supreme Court's recent decision on reserved seats, which favored Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Chan's remarks come in the wake of PPP's review appeal filed in the Supreme Court challenging the allocation of reserved seats to PTI.

In a recent interview, Chan argued that the PPP does not have the right to the reserved seats in question, asserting that the party which rightfully earns these seats should be the one to receive them. He further claimed that PTI was unjustly awarded seats without proper application or participation in the relevant legal processes, a situation he believes needs rectification.

“The Supreme Court’s decision of July, which allocated reserved seats to PTI, was unjust,” Chan said. “We believe the ruling needs to be revoked as PTI did not properly engage in the process. We are seeking to overturn this decision through our review petition.”

Chan also criticized PTI’s position, alleging that if not for the PPP's intervention, PTI would have been banned three years ago. He underscored his party's stance that PTI should not be part of the national mainstream due to its alleged dictatorial behavior.

The Supreme Court had previously ruled in favor of PTI, declaring it a constitutionally valid political party and reversing decisions made by the Election Commission and the Peshawar High Court regarding reserved seats. The court also mandated that PTI submit a list of these seats to the Election Commission within a week.

In response to this ruling, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had filed a revision appeal, challenging the Supreme Court’s decision and seeking a reconsideration of the allocation process.

Chan's comments reflect ongoing tensions and legal battles concerning the distribution of political seats and the broader political landscape in Pakistan. His statements emphasize the PPP's commitment to challenging what it views as unfair practices and advocating for a more transparent and accountable political system.
