President Asif Ali Zardari has tested positive for coronavirus and is currently in isolation, according to an official statement issued by the presidency on Wednesday.

The news comes amid speculation about his health after media reports suggested that he had been hospitalized in Karachi. Sources revealed that he was brought from Nawabshah, where he had offered Eidul Fitr prayers.

The president’s personal physician, Dr. Asim Hussain, confirmed that multiple tests had been conducted, and Zardari’s Covid-19 diagnosis was confirmed.

“The president is suffering from coronavirus and has been advised to remain in isolation at this time,” Dr. Hussain said. “A team of experts is taking care of him, and his condition is improving.”

Clarifications on Health and Treatment

Earlier today, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon assured the public that President Zardari’s health was stable. He also refuted claims about Zardari being shifted to Dubai for medical treatment, calling such reports inaccurate.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Memon stated that the president’s health was improving and expressed hope for a quick recovery.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reached out to President Zardari to inquire about his well-being and wished him a speedy recovery.

PPP Senator Sehar Kamran shared similar sentiments on social media, wishing the president good health and commending his resilience.

Health History of President Zardari

At 69 years old, President Zardari has dealt with multiple health challenges over the years. He previously tested positive for Covid-19 in July 2022, experiencing mild symptoms.

In October 2024, he suffered a foot fracture while deboarding an airplane and required immediate medical attention. He also underwent an eye surgery in the UAE in March 2023.

In 2022, Zardari was hospitalized in Karachi for a chest infection, with his physician later confirming his stable condition. A year earlier, he was admitted to a private hospital due to exhaustion from frequent travel.
