PTI Condemns Denial of Imran Khan’s Family Visits, Proposes Roadmap for Release

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Tuesday condemned the repeated denial of family visits to its founder, Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail. PTI termed the restrictions a “blatant violation of fundamental human and constitutional rights.”

The Islamabad High Court had previously allowed Imran to meet his family, lawyers, and associates twice weekly. Despite this, visits have largely been blocked in recent weeks. Imran last met his lawyer, Salman Safdar, on February 10, after the Supreme Court intervened following a prolonged period of isolation.

Imran underwent a third eye procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for an anti-VEGF intra-vitreal injection amid concerns over partial vision loss in his right eye. His family and personal doctors have requested his admission to Shifa International Hospital, stressing the need for uninterrupted medical access.

Speaking outside Adiala jail, Imran’s sisters, Aleema Khanum and Noreen Niazi, decried the restrictions, questioning government demands that Imran’s sons travel on National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOPs) rather than using their British passports. They called the ongoing restrictions “unlawful” and denied any public disturbance by the PTI.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja emphasized that lawyers were ready to protest and pursue justice despite government attempts to “divide the legal community.” The party highlighted that prolonged solitary confinement violates internationally recognized human rights standards, including the United Nations’ Nelson Mandela Rules, equating extended isolation with physical and psychological torture.

The PTI demanded that Imran be granted immediate access to family, legal counsel, and personal physicians, removed from solitary confinement, and shifted to Shifa International Hospital for essential medical care.

Proposed Roadmap for Release

Simultaneously, the PTI Islamabad chapter submitted a comprehensive plan to secure Imran’s release and restore democratic stability. Aamir Mughal told Dawn that overcoming political challenges requires a practical, well-coordinated strategy.

Key elements of the roadmap include:

  • Accountability within the party, reviewing office-bearers and ticket holders since Imran’s arrest
  • A six-point narrative focusing on release of all detainees, supremacy of the Constitution, reduction in inflation, elimination of corruption, job creation, and law-and-order improvement
  • Consistent communication of a unified party message
  • Organized, lawful public engagement across districts and provinces
  • Mobilization of youth to participate constructively in democratic processes beyond social media
  • Effective media strategy, including engaging influencers, journalists, and recognizing grassroots workers
  • Involvement of the overseas community for global amplification and lawful financial support
  • Activation of the party’s lawyers’ wing for legal advocacy and constitutional defense

The plan, submitted to Salman Akram Raja, emphasizes peaceful and lawful methods to achieve the party’s objectives, ensuring coordinated action across all levels of the PTI.

This roadmap marks PTI Islamabad chapter’s formal effort to create a structured strategy to secure Imran Khan’s release and reinforce democratic accountability.
