POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has made it clear that Suleiman and Kasim, the sons of PTI founder Imran Khan, are not beyond the reach of the law and will face legal consequences if they violate Pakistani law during political protests.
Speaking to Geo News, Governor Kundi said that peaceful protest is the democratic right of every citizen — including Imran Khan’s children — but any attempt to disrupt law and order will be dealt with accordingly.
“PTI founder’s children are not untouchable,” the governor stated. “If they cross the legal line, the law will take its course.”
The remarks came in response to recent announcements by PTI leadership that Suleiman and Kasim will actively join the party’s campaign for the release of their father, who remains detained at Adiala Jail since August 2023 under multiple criminal and anti-terrorism charges.
Legal Status Under Scrutiny
Kundi also touched on the dual nationality status of Imran Khan’s sons, suggesting that if they do not possess Pakistani citizenship, the matter could fall under the jurisdiction of the British High Commission. However, he emphasized that foreign nationality does not offer legal immunity in Pakistan.
“Just as British law applies to Pakistanis in the UK, Pakistani law applies to British citizens present in Pakistan,” Kundi said.
Political Tensions on the Rise
Governor Kundi also accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, led by PTI, of targeting PPP workers and warned that PTI would have to “face the consequences of its own actions.”
“The law is equal for all. Anyone — regardless of status or nationality — who violates it will be held accountable,” he asserted.
The warning from the governor comes as the political temperature in Pakistan continues to rise over Imran Khan’s prolonged incarceration. The 71-year-old ex-premier was removed from office in April 2022 via a no-confidence motion and later arrested on charges ranging from corruption to terrorism.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government has echoed similar warnings, signaling that any illegal activities by Suleiman and Kasim during protests would result in legal action.
As political protests pick up pace and international attention focuses on human rights concerns in Pakistan, the statements from Governor Kundi highlight the fragile legal and political dynamics surrounding PTI’s evolving protest strategy.
