POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has condemned the suspension of 26 Punjab Assembly members over protests, declaring the move undemocratic and unconstitutional.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore alongside Opposition Leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachra and senior party leader Latif Khosa, Raja emphasized that only Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution provide the legal grounds for disqualifying or de-seating a member of the assembly.
“Assembly members cannot be suspended for protesting. PTI will challenge this decision on every legal and political forum,” Raja said.
Opposition to Set Up Parallel Assembly
Opposition Leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachra strongly criticized the Punjab Assembly's action, calling it a blatant violation of democratic norms.
“Suspending 26 members for protesting is unacceptable in a democracy. We will not remain silent in the presence of an unconstitutional Chief Minister. We will set up our own assembly outside if necessary,” Bhachra warned.
PTI has maintained that the suspensions were politically motivated and aimed at suppressing dissent within the legislature. The suspended members had protested during a recent assembly session, allegedly disrupting proceedings.
PTI Rejects KPK Government Change Rumors
Meanwhile, senior PTI leader and legal expert Latif Khosa dismissed media reports and political speculation regarding a possible change in government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that such discussions were purely wishful thinking by the PML-N.
“There’s no truth to the rumors about KP. The government there is stable, and any such talk is mere fantasy,” Khosa said.
The press conference reflected PTI’s aggressive posture in the face of mounting institutional pressures and its intent to pursue legal remedies and political mobilization simultaneously.
The party has vowed to continue highlighting what it sees as constitutional violations and political victimization by the current government in Punjab.
