Punjab Assembly Speaker Threatens to Ban Unnecessary Questions During Question Hour

Tensions rose in the Punjab Assembly during the Question Hour when opposition members repeatedly raised questions, leading to an angry response from Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan. The Speaker expressed frustration over what he deemed as unnecessary supplementary questions and hinted at a ban on such questions in future sessions.

Speaker's Response to Opposition Queries

During the session, opposition members were seen asking multiple questions one after another, leading Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan to intervene. He warned that if unnecessary supplementary questions continue, he would impose a ban on them. "Prepare your supplementary questions and come to the House, as this wastes the House’s time. From tomorrow, I will ban unnecessary questions on questions," said the Speaker.

Minister’s Response on Environmental Issues

Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb provided updates on the government's efforts to address environmental concerns in Punjab, particularly the issue of waste management in Faisalabad. She highlighted that Rs 4 million had been allocated for Faisalabad's drain, and action had been taken against 32 mill owners who were violating environmental standards. Marriyum Aurangzeb also emphasized the release of Rs 50 million to the Environmental Protection Department, marking a significant move by the current government to address environmental issues, including the mitigation of smog.

She criticized the previous government for neglecting these issues and praised the current government for formulating a policy to tackle smog, making substantial financial contributions to environmental protection.

Opposition's Concerns

Opposition members raised concerns over the effectiveness of the government's efforts, particularly regarding clean drinking water. Opposition leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar questioned the utilization of funds allocated for environmental protection, asking about the regulations in place for the Environment Protection Department.

Rana Aftab, another opposition member, questioned the government's claims, arguing that while the government may boast of progress, citizens still faced basic issues like access to clean water.

Human Trafficking and Layyah City's Concerns

The issue of human trafficking was also raised during the session, with government member Madad Ali Shah demanding strict action. The Speaker confirmed the formation of a committee to address the issue and discuss it with the federal government.

Additionally, opposition member Sardar Shahabuddin raised concerns over the filthy state of Layyah city, claiming that blocked roads due to dirt were creating health hazards for citizens. He called for immediate cleaning efforts to prevent the spread of diseases.
