Punjab Government Apologizes for Transfer of Officers to Federal Posts

The Punjab government has issued an apology for transferring important officers, including DIG Operations Lahore Ali Nasir and Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf, to federal positions. The decision to apologize comes amidst ongoing administrative reshuffling and discussions regarding the appointment of officers to key posts.

Sources reveal that the Punjab government refused to relieve DIG Operations Lahore when he was posted as IG Islamabad, requesting the federal government to transfer federal officers from the province first before making new appointments. Similarly, the Punjab government intervened to prevent Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf from reporting to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) due to ongoing important projects in the province.

It is reported that caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi sought to bring his team from Punjab to the federation, attempting to appoint IG Punjab Usman Anwar as Interior Secretary. However, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz expressed her desire to retain IG Usman Anwar in his current position.

Despite the approval and issuance of a notification for Ali Nasir's appointment as IG Islamabad, there has been a delay in assuming charge, leaving the Acting IG position in the federal capital with DIG Operations Shahzad Bukhari.

Currently, there are no ongoing discussions between Mohsin Naqvi and the Punjab government regarding officer appointments. It is anticipated that after Eid, discussions will resume, and Mohsin Naqvi will submit three names for the IG Islamabad position, with further officer transfers to be considered thereafter.

The administrative adjustments highlight the complexities of inter-provincial transfers and the importance of coordination between federal and provincial governments in ensuring effective governance.
