Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique has hailed the province’s “Shatra Punjab” initiative as the world’s largest solid waste management program, attracting attention from countries around the globe.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Zeeshan Rafique said the program has now expanded across the entire province under the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab. He highlighted that recycling processes are also being implemented as part of the initiative, promoting environmental sustainability.
“The American magazine has praised Shatra Punjab. Many countries are taking guidance from Punjab on solid waste management,” he said, emphasizing the program’s international recognition.
The minister further noted that the sanitation system has been extended to villages, providing employment opportunities to thousands of people in just eight months. “Thanks to the Shatra Punjab program, Punjab has introduced the best sanitation system and set a benchmark for other nations,” he added.
The initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to modernizing waste management practices while creating social and economic benefits for communities across Punjab.
