Rana Sanaullah Warns of Legal Action Against PTI If May 9 Interference Confirmed

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, on Friday stated that if evidence of political interference emerges regarding the May 9 incidents, strict legal action will be unavoidable. He emphasized that the party implicated in the events, including prominent figures like former ISI chief Faiz Hameed, could face accountability under the law.

Speaking on Aaj News, Sanaullah said, “If the fabric of political interference is found in the May 9 incidents, action will be taken according to law. Whoever is responsible, including Faiz Hameed, will be held accountable.”

He further highlighted that the possibilities of action against the accused party are “very clear,” underscoring that the law applies equally to all involved. The adviser also praised the Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, for taking measures to fulfill demands of justice, calling his actions commendable.

Rana Sanaullah referred to the “political chaos” mentioned in the press release as directly related to the events of May 9. He reiterated that all involved individuals could be tried and legally held responsible. “If evidence is proven, even the founder of PTI can be punished,” he added.

Former federal minister Faisal Vawda also commented on the matter, stating that resignations alone would not suffice. Speaking on a private television program, Vawda questioned the circumstances surrounding the judiciary’s actions during the May 9 sit-in, asking, “Who opened the courts at 12 am and who trapped Nawaz Sharif before releasing him?”

Vawda added that the privileges of former General Faiz Hameed would be revoked, noting his multiple properties, and called for a thorough investigation into his alleged political associates. He emphasized that the truth must emerge through proper inquiry.

The remarks by both Sanaullah and Vawda indicate a potential intensification of legal proceedings related to the May 9 incidents, with senior military and political figures under scrutiny.
