Reinstated Reserved Seat Members to Receive Backdated Salaries

It has been decided that all lawmakers reinstated to reserved seats in the National and Provincial Assemblies will be paid their basic salaries for the duration of their suspension period, backdated to May 13, 2024.

According to parliamentary sources, a total of 77 members were suspended last year, leading to the immediate stoppage of their salaries. These included 22 National Assembly members19 women and 3 minority representatives. So far, reinstatement notifications have been issued for 19 of these members, while three seats remain unfilled.

The reinstated National Assembly members will receive basic salaries starting from the date of suspension (May 13, 2024) until the court’s reinstatement verdict, but will not receive travel and daily allowances (TA/DA) or any additional perks.

·       For the period May 13 to December 31, 2024, each member will receive a basic monthly salary of Rs. 150,000.

·       For the period from January 1, 2025, onward, the salary will be adjusted proportionately based on any revised pay scales applicable after the start of the new fiscal year.

In parallel, 55 members from reserved seats in provincial assemblies — across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan — will also receive their respective basic salaries as per the laws governing their provincial legislatures.

The suspension and subsequent reinstatement of these members followed legal and political battles over the allocation of reserved seats, many of which had initially been withheld during a period of intense constitutional debate and electoral uncertainty.

This latest move brings partial financial relief to the reinstated lawmakers, while also signaling institutional recognition of their legitimate parliamentary roles during the disputed suspension period.
