Senator Professor Sajid Mir, head of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan and a distinguished religious and political figure, passed away at the age of 87 at his ancestral home in Sialkot. His funeral prayers will be held tonight at 10 PM in his hometown.
According to family sources, Professor Sajid Mir had been ill for the past month and had recently undergone heart surgery. A stent had previously been placed in his heart nearly a decade ago.
Born in 1938 in Sialkot, he led Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan for over 40 years and remained a central figure in the Ahle Hadith school of thought. He was elected to the Senate of Pakistan five times, where he earned a reputation for moderation, integrity, and religious wisdom.
A close associate of former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, Professor Sajid Mir was also an accomplished academic and author. His renowned book “Christianity: A Study and Analysis” continues to be cited in scholarly circles.
He leaves behind two sons, a daughter, and his widow. His passing has been met with widespread grief in religious and political communities across Pakistan. Leaders and scholars from various backgrounds are paying tribute to his scholarly legacy, principled leadership, and lifelong commitment to faith and public service.
