Rising Street Crimes in Karachi: Highest Incidents of Vehicle Thefts and Mobile Snatching Reported

Law enforcement officials in Karachi are facing scrutiny once again as reports indicate a significant rise in street crimes, particularly car and motorbike thefts, and mobile phone snatching incidents across the city.

According to a recent report by the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Sindh, June saw a disturbing surge in vehicle thefts. A total of 24 cars were snatched from citizens, and 135 others were stolen. However, authorities managed to recover only 80 vehicles out of the reported cases.

Similarly, the report highlights a staggering number of motorbike thefts, with 564 motorcycles snatched at gunpoint and 2,792 stolen. Law enforcement agencies were able to recover only 196 motorcycles.

Mobile phone snatching incidents also witnessed a sharp increase, with 1,433 phones stolen from citizens in June alone. Shockingly, the police recovered only 18 of these stolen phones.

Additionally, the CPLC report noted the registration of six extortion cases within Karachi during the same period. Moreover, the city witnessed 40 fatalities in various violent incidents.

The deteriorating security situation in Karachi has raised concerns among residents and civic authorities alike, urging immediate and effective measures to curb street crimes and ensure public safety.
