Armed robbers looted Rs 23.2 million from the cash van of a residential society on Manghopir Road, raising serious questions about law enforcement in the area.

According to police officials, the incident took place just two kilometers from the Manghopir police station. Five armed men on motorcycles intercepted the cash van shortly after it had stopped in front of a private bank.

The FIR, registered at Manghopir police station on the complaint of the society’s security supervisor, stated that a rider had taken Rs 2.2 million into the bank while the remaining amount was still inside the van. As the vehicle prepared to return, the robbers surrounded it, forcibly took away a bag containing Rs 23.2 million, and fled on two motorcycles.

In addition to the cash, the assailants also snatched weapons and ammunition from the security guards, leaving the staff defenseless.

Police have launched an investigation, but no arrests were reported till the filing of this story. The daring robbery so close to a police station has triggered concerns about rising street crime and the effectiveness of Karachi’s security measures.
