Saudi Health Ministry Launches Multilingual Haj Health Kit for Pilgrims

Haj, one of the five pillars of Islam, attracts millions of Muslims globally to perform the sacred pilgrimage each year. Pakistan receives one of the largest Haj quotas from Saudi Arabia, with 179,210 Pakistani pilgrims set to undertake the pilgrimage in 2025 under the recently signed agreement between the two countries.

In a recent announcement on social media platform X, the Saudi Ministry of Health introduced a comprehensive health awareness kit available in eight languages to support pilgrims’ health and well-being during the physically demanding pilgrimage.

The kit includes crucial information such as how to prevent heat-related illnesses, manage health in extreme conditions, and ensure required vaccinations—meningitis, Covid-19, polio, and yellow fever—are up to date. It also offers guidance on managing chronic diseases and details access to free health services available to pilgrims throughout Haj. Alongside written materials, the kit features short videos, social media content, and printable posters designed for easy dissemination.

Since the beginning of the pre-Haj flight operation on April 29, the Pakistan Haj Mission has welcomed 38,229 Pakistani pilgrims in Madina and Makkah under the government scheme, with the full quota expected to participate over the course of the pilgrimage.

The Haj pilgrimage has witnessed high casualty numbers in recent years. Last year, 1,301 pilgrims lost their lives, many due to harsh conditions like prolonged walking under direct sunlight without adequate shelter. Among the deceased were at least 35 Pakistani nationals.

In response, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have introduced new facilities this year, including air-conditioned tents in Mina, family-friendly accommodations, optimized luggage systems, and high-quality transport services to ease the pilgrimage experience.

To ensure pilgrims’ safety and medical support, around 400 medical and paramedical officers are deployed at dedicated healthcare facilities, including a well-equipped hospital and nine dispensaries in Makkah, plus a hospital and two dispensaries in Madinah.

This initiative highlights the commitment of both nations to safeguard the health and spiritual fulfillment of millions participating in the holy Haj pilgrimage.
