Senior Civil Judge Inamullah Suspended for Defying Supreme Court's Order on Monal Restaurant

Senior Civil Judge Inamullah has been suspended following his decision to grant a stay order on the demolition of Monal Restaurant, despite a clear directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The suspension was ordered by Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Aamir Farooq, who has also mandated that Judge Inamullah report to the High Court as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

The Chief Justice initiated an inquiry into the actions of Senior Civil Judge Inamullah, appointing District and Sessions Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti as the inquiry officer. Judge Inamullah has been summoned to the High Court to provide an explanation regarding his controversial stay order.

The Supreme Court had previously issued an order in June 2024 for the complete closure of all Monal restaurants located on National Park Pir Sohawa Road, mandating that the demolition be carried out within three months. This decision was reaffirmed last month when the Supreme Court rejected review petitions submitted by the restaurants and upheld the directive to close them.

The suspension of Judge Inamullah underscores the judiciary's commitment to adhering to the Supreme Court's decisions and ensuring that legal orders are enforced without delay. The inquiry into his conduct will seek to determine the rationale behind his decision to grant the stay and whether it contravenes established judicial protocols.
