Seven Bullet-Riddled Bodies Found in Ziarat; Locals Protest

Ziarat Deputy Commissioner Zakiullah confirmed on Tuesday that the district administration recovered seven unidentified bullet-riddled bodies from the Gonja Tangi area of Ziarat.

Speaking to Dawn.com, DC Zakiullah said the administration was alerted about the bodies early in the morning and immediately dispatched ambulances and an assistant commissioner to the scene.

However, upon reaching Chautir, a locality near the discovery site, the official convoy was met with a protest. Local residents had blocked the highway, expressing deep concern over the incident.

“They claimed the deceased were not from Chautir or Ziarat and had never been seen in the area. They labelled them as terrorists and feared the possibility of a retaliatory operation in their area based on this assumption,” said DC Zakiullah.

Following successful negotiations, the bodies were handed over to the district administration and transported to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Ziarat. However, they remained unidentified and appeared to be non-local individuals.

Subsequently, the bodies were shifted to Quetta for further examination and necessary procedures. The Counterterrorism Department (CTD) and local police were also contacted, but both agencies reported no prior knowledge of the incident.

This latest discovery has raised fresh concerns about unexplained killings in Balochistan. In a similar incident in August last year, five bodies were found hanging from an electric pole in Dalbandin, also located in the restive province.

Authorities have yet to determine who the victims were and the motive behind the killings. Investigations are underway.
