Shazia Marri, Talal Chaudhry Clash Over CDA Bill in Heated NA Committee Meeting

A heated exchange broke out between PPP’s Shazia Marri and PML-N’s Talal Chaudhry during a session of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior, as tensions escalated over the long-pending CDA Amendment Bill.

Shazia Marri lashed out at the alleged obstruction in presenting the bill, claiming that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman had been deliberately delaying the legislative process.

“This bill has been pending for five sessions. Enough is enough. Interference in the parliamentary process is unacceptable. If this continues, I will move a privilege motion against the CDA Chairman,” Marri declared, visibly upset.

In a strong rebuttal, Talal Chaudhry came to the defence of the CDA Chairman, saying,

“If you bring a privilege motion, I will face it myself.”

This led to a sharp reaction from Marri, who asked, “Are you threatening us?
Talal shot back, “You’re the one threatening.

Supremacy of Constitution Sparks Lighter Moment

The meeting also saw a lighter, more theatrical moment when Law Ministry officials affirmed that "the Constitution is supreme."
PTI’s Shehryar Afridi responded, “Repeat that again, it feels good to hear.
Zartaj Gul added, “We want to understand it.
Talal Chaudhry quipped, “Those who don’t understand will be made to understand.
Member Rafiullah Agha sarcastically concluded, “On our behalf, establish ties with them too.
The chairman had to intervene to calm things down.

Privilege Motion Threat Against Law Officer

Shazia Marri also raised concerns over the conduct of a Law Ministry officer, stating that she would bring a privilege motion against the official as well.

The session, intended to focus on critical legislation, ultimately took a back seat to the bitter political exchange and personal jibes, though it also offered moments of unintended humor.
