POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

PTI’s expelled National Assembly member Sher Afzal Marwat has strongly rejected his expulsion from the party, asserting that he will not vacate his seat in the National Assembly on a whim.
Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, Marwat expressed his frustration over the arbitrary expulsion, claiming that there is no clarity or reasoning behind his removal from the party. He raised concerns about the lack of transparency in PTI's decision-making process and the disregard for accountability.
"Why should I leave the National Assembly seat on a whim? If the one who holds the seat asks me to leave, then I will consider it. Until then, I will not give up my seat," he said, stressing that no one’s future in PTI is secure given the current state of affairs within the party.
Marwat also took aim at the party leadership's treatment of Zain Qureshi, son of Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who has been seen as a central figure due to his family connections. He described the situation as an issue of discrimination rather than hereditary politics.
"Zain Qureshi is considered because of Shah Mehmood Qureshi's sacrifices, and this must be accepted. It’s not about hereditary politics but rather about discrimination," Marwat added.
Reflecting on the state of the party, Marwat remarked that PTI is increasingly divided, with key figures trying to control the party. He emphasized that his primary goal was to oppose this internal capture and prevent any further damage to the party’s integrity.
"I will shatter their dream of capturing the party as long as I am alive," he said.
Marwat further criticized the lack of success within the party, pointing out that there has been little progress over the past year, and called for greater focus on unity and clarity in the party’s goals.
"We are busy tearing each other down. It’s enough now. We need to focus on the real task—returning the mandate to the people and empowering them," he concluded.
