Bilawal Leads Diplomatic Offensive Post-Pahalgam Attack

In response to India's accusations following the recent Pahalgam attack, Pakistan has launched a high-powered diplomatic campaign spearheaded by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, seeking to expose what it calls “baseless Indian claims” and to push for renewed international focus on Kashmir, the Indus Waters Treaty, and peace in South Asia.

The delegation met officials of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday to present Pakistan’s position and demand a peaceful path forward amid escalating tensions with India.

“We categorically reject India’s attempt to link Pakistan to the Pahalgam incident without any credible investigation or evidence,” Bilawal stated while addressing OIC envoys.

The nine-member delegation, which arrived in New York on Sunday, comprises a robust lineup of former foreign ministers, diplomats, senators, and sitting officials:

·       Former FMs: Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Hina Rabbani Khar, Khurram Dastgir

·       Former Secretaries: Tehmina Janjua, Jalil Abbas Jilani

·       Senators & Politicians: Sherry Rehman, Musadik Malik, Faisal Sabzwari, Bushra Anjum Butt

🔹 Key Points from Bilawal’s Address:

·       He condemned India’s cross-border strikes, calling them unlawful and targeted at civilians.

·       Criticised India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, terming it “weaponisation of water”.

·       Emphasised that "aggression cannot be normalised", and called for dialogue, diplomacy, and restoration of peace.

·       Urged the UNSC to uphold its mandate in preventing unilateralism and supporting conflict resolution, especially in Kashmir.

The delegation is set to continue its tour with engagements in Washington, Brussels, and London, with meetings scheduled with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, lawmakers, and policy think tanks.

Notably, an Indian delegation led by Shashi Tharoor also arrives in Washington this week, setting the stage for parallel diplomatic efforts by the South Asian rivals.

🔹 Meetings with UN and World Powers:

·       OIC representatives expressed solidarity with Pakistan and Kashmiris, and called for respect of international law and treaties.

·       With UNSC President Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Pakistan urged the Council’s intervention in ensuring peace.

·       The delegation also met UNSC’s elected and permanent members, including ambassadors of China, Russia, and the US.

o   China echoed Pakistan’s stance that unilateral actions threaten regional peace.

o   Russia was briefed on India’s “premature and baseless” accusations.

o   Bilawal urged the US to play a constructive role in reviving comprehensive dialogue between India and Pakistan.

🔹 The Broader Message:

Pakistan’s delegation made it clear that India’s recent actions risk regional stability, and called for renewed global focus on:

·       Kashmir’s unresolved status

·       Ceasefire compliance

·       Reactivation of bilateral treaties

·       Respect for international law and the UN Charter

As tensions rise between the nuclear-armed neighbours, Islamabad’s diplomatic outreach signals its intent to counter Indian narratives with legal, political, and moral arguments on international platforms.
