Talal Chaudhry Warns Against Anti-State Social Media Campaigns

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry on Monday cautioned that social media is being used to run systematic campaigns against Pakistan’s institutions, particularly by PTI accounts operating from abroad.

Addressing a press conference, Talal Chaudhry said that terrorist organizations are also exploiting social media platforms to propagate malicious narratives, some of which threaten national security. He emphasized that while the government upholds freedom of expression, it will not tolerate campaigns aimed at undermining the country’s institutions and sovereignty.

He further alleged that PTI accounts are being used to create trends and manipulate social media narratives, sometimes funded by money collected for each message. Some of these accounts are managed by foreign-based companies, which even change account names to evade detection. The minister warned that individuals participating in such trends could face legal consequences.

Talal Chaudhry’s remarks come amid growing concerns about the role of social media in shaping public opinion and its potential exploitation to destabilize national institutions.
