POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement–Pakistan (MQM-P) has extended its support to the Stability Pakistan Party’s proposal for the creation of 12 new provinces, reflecting what the party describes as alignment with national interests.
The Independent Pakistan Party (IPP) expressed satisfaction over MQM’s support, with its spokesperson stating that this backing demonstrates MQM’s commitment to the national mainstream and its focus on good governance and administrative reform.
The IPP highlighted that fair distribution of powers, resolving local issues, and smaller administrative units are critical needs of the country, and that the establishment of new provinces is the most effective solution for improving governance and public welfare.
The spokesperson further noted that the demand for new provinces is not new, citing the January 28, 2013 report, and stressed that administrative units in provinces beyond Punjab can significantly enhance governance.
According to the IPP, new provinces can be created in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa without altering the existing provincial names. The party also called on all political parties to engage in consultations and meaningful discussions on the issue to reach a consensus.
The move underscores ongoing political discussions around administrative decentralization in Pakistan and the importance of provincial reforms to address local governance challenges.
