CRIME
Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue (ADCR) Sialkot, Iqbal Sanghera, has been arrested by anti-corruption authorities for allegedly accepting a massive bribe of Rs 17 crore in exchange for granting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to a private housing society.
According to sources within the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), the action was initiated after a formal complaint was lodged by a citizen named Zahid Javed, who exposed the alleged bribery. The complaint triggered a detailed investigation, leading to the dramatic arrest of the senior revenue officer.
During the operation, Rs 13 crore in cash was recovered, including a vehicle loaded with currency that was found parked at Sanghera’s residence in Lahore. Anti-corruption officials stated that raids are still ongoing to recover the remaining Rs 4 crore, which they believe is hidden at other undisclosed locations.
Anti-Corruption Drive Intensifies
This high-profile arrest is being seen as a significant development in the ongoing anti-corruption crackdown in Punjab, where several civil officers are under scrutiny for alleged misuse of power and illegal land dealings. The case has sent shockwaves through the bureaucratic circles, especially within the revenue and development departments.
Sources say that the arrested ADCR could face serious legal consequences, including dismissal from service and possible jail time if proven guilty under the Punjab Anti-Corruption Laws.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment has vowed to pursue the case vigorously and bring all involved parties to justice, regardless of rank or position.
