Sialkot Airport Flights Resume After Flood Closure; India-China Flights Restored After 5 Years

All flight operations at Sialkot International Airport will resume from 6 pm today, following a temporary suspension due to recent flooding in the region.

According to the airport spokesperson Muhammad Umer Khan, operations were halted as a precautionary measure while floodwater was drained from the runway, terminal, and surrounding facilities. He confirmed that the NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) suspending flights has now been withdrawn after safety clearance.

“All equipment at the airport remains safe, with no technical damage reported. The runway and terminal are fully operational, and flights will now proceed as per the schedule,” he said.

Khan added that the Civil Aviation Authority and airport management worked in coordination to ensure minimal disruption and passenger convenience. Airlines have also been officially notified about the resumption of operations.

Meanwhile, in a separate major development in regional aviation, India and China have agreed to restore direct flights between the two countries after a gap of five years. The announcement was made by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, which also confirmed that border trade will be resumed through three designated trade routes.

The restoration of air connectivity and trade between India and China comes after years of strained diplomatic and trade relations. Analysts see it as a significant step toward easing tensions and boosting regional cooperation.

With Sialkot Airport back online and India-China reconnecting, South Asia’s aviation and trade sectors are witnessing notable progress in regional mobility and connectivity.
