Sindh Govt Raises Minimum Wage to Rs 40,000, Ensures Equal Pay for Female Workers

The Sindh government has issued a notification raising the minimum monthly wage to Rs 40,000 for unskilled laborers. The wage hike, implemented under the Sindh Minimum Wages Act 2015, came into effect on July 1, 2025, and applies to both registered and unregistered establishments.

According to the official notification, the revised minimum monthly wages are as follows:

·       Unskilled Workers: Rs 40,000

·       Semi-Skilled Workers: Rs 41,280

·       Skilled Workers: Rs 48,910

·       Highly Skilled Workers: Rs 50,868

The new structure also sets the daily minimum wage at Rs 192 per hour, introducing an 8.1% average increase in labor wages.

Secretary of the Minimum Wage Board, Rafiq Qureshi, announced that the notification is open to public feedback. “Suggestions or objections may be submitted to the Minimum Wage Board Sindh within 14 days,” he said, noting that the board remains committed to inclusive consultation.

Sindh Labour Minister Shahid Thahim emphasized that the revised wage law ensures equal pay for women, adding that any employer violating the rules would face strict legal action. “We aim to provide protection, dignity, and a better quality of life for every worker in Sindh,” he said.

The wage revision reflects the provincial government’s push to support laborers amid rising inflation and the increasing cost of living. Labor rights activists have welcomed the decision, urging timely enforcement across all sectors.

The new wage structure will likely impact a wide range of industries in Sindh, from construction and textiles to hospitality and domestic work, and is being viewed as a benchmark for other provinces to follow.
