The Sindh Education Department has approved the introduction of Hindu religious textbooks for Hindu students studying in government schools across the province, marking a significant step toward inclusive education.

According to official details, the decision was taken by the Executive Committee of the Sindh Curriculum Council, which approved the inclusion of three religious textbooks for students of Grades III to V. The new curriculum will be implemented from the academic session 2026–27.

The initiative has been introduced on the directives of the Sindh Education Minister, aiming to provide Hindu students with education aligned with their religious beliefs. The textbooks will replace the existing ethics subject for Hindu students in the selected grades.

As part of the arrangement, the Sindh Textbook Board (STBB) will oversee distribution of the books across government schools in the province. For the initial phase, a Karachi-based welfare organization, Prem Sagar Sanstha, has been authorized to handle printing of the textbooks, while government funding will be allocated for future academic years.

Officials stated that the move is part of broader efforts to ensure inclusive and equitable education for minority communities in Sindh. Currently, more than 129,000 Hindu students are enrolled in public schools across the province, with significant numbers in districts such as Tharparkar and Umerkot.

Education authorities emphasized that the initiative aims to promote religious understanding and ensure that students from minority communities receive instruction aligned with their cultural and religious background.
