SJC Complaint Filed Against IHC Judge Justice Muhammad Asif Over Son’s Fatal Accident

A complaint has been submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Justice Muhammad Asif, seeking an inquiry and his removal from office.

The complaint was filed by Col. (retd) Inam-ur-Rahim, Advocate, in connection with a tragic accident on December 2 at Secretariat Chowk, Islamabad, in which two young women, Samreen and Tabinda, lost their lives. The accident occurred when a white Land Cruiser, driven by Justice Asif’s 16-year-old son Abuzar, collided with a scooter at high speed.

The petition alleges that Abuzar was driving a non-customs-paid vehicle without a valid driving license, and that Justice Asif used his influence and state machinery to pressure the victims’ families. It also claims that the accused was granted bail after secretly recording statements of the heirs of the deceased women.

According to the petition, a judge is expected to uphold high moral and ethical standards. It contends that Justice Asif violated the code of conduct by relying on government influence rather than expressing sympathy for the victims’ families, and therefore should be removed from office following a formal inquiry.

Police reports indicate that at the time of the accident, Abuzar was filming a video on Snapchat and discarded his mobile phone immediately after the incident. The Secretariat police have registered a case based on the complaint filed by Samreen’s brother. The court recently approved a four-day physical remand for Abuzar, placing him in police custody for further investigation.

The SJC will now decide whether to initiate a formal inquiry against Justice Muhammad Asif based on the allegations of misconduct and abuse of influence.
