Stepmother Arrested for Beating 7-Year-Old to Death in Haripur

A harrowing case of domestic violence emerged from the Kata Kot area of Haripur district on Monday, where a woman was arrested for allegedly torturing and killing her seven-year-old stepson, local police confirmed.

According to the first information report (FIR) registered at Kot Najibullah Police Station, the victim's father was at work in Taxila when he received a call from his wife shortly after 3 PM. She claimed the child had been attacked in the street.

Upon returning home, the father found his son lying lifeless on a bed, with clear signs of brutal torture on his body. In his statement, he alleged that the woman — the boy’s stepmother — admitted to beating the child with a stick because he was making noise inside the house.

The father further stated that his son had been ill for some time, a condition he now attributes to repeated physical abuse at the hands of the stepmother. He urged authorities to take strict legal action against her.

Haripur District Police Officer (DPO) Farhan Khan confirmed the suspect’s arrest within an hour of the FIR being lodged and said a full investigation is underway. "We are committed to ensuring that justice is delivered swiftly and fairly," DPO Khan added.

This tragic case adds to a growing concern over child abuse in Pakistan. According to a civil society report released in May, 3,364 child abuse cases were reported across the country in 2024, including cases from all four provinces, the federal capital, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Just days before this incident, a 13-year-old maid was allegedly raped and murdered in Abbottabad, while last month, a teenage mother was reportedly killed by her own family in Karachi in a so-called ‘honour’ killing.

These cases highlight the urgent need for stronger child protection mechanisms and accountability for perpetrators of abuse.
