Sui Gas Companies Seek Major Price Hike for Next Financial Year Amid Financial Shortfalls

Islamabad: Sui Gas companies have formally requested a substantial hike in gas prices for the next financial year. According to Geo News, Sui Northern has requested an average increase of Rs 735.59 per MMBTU, while Sui Southern is seeking a much larger increase of Rs 2,443 per MMBTU.
The requested increases are designed to address both rising costs and the companies’ financial shortfalls.

Sui Northern has outlined financial requirements of Rs 700.97 billion, including a shortfall of Rs 207.43 billion, while also requesting an average gas price of Rs 2,485.72 per MMBTU. Meanwhile, Sui Southern is seeking Rs 883.54 billion to cover its financial requirements and a shortfall of Rs 44.33 billion, with an average price of Rs 4,137.49 per MMBTU.

The companies’ requests also include adjustments for the shortfall carried over from the previous year, further increasing the financial burden on consumers.

To discuss these proposals, hearings will be held in Lahore and Peshawar on April 18 and 28 for Sui Northern, while Karachi and Quetta will host hearings for Sui Southern on April 21 and 23. These hearings are crucial in determining the future cost of natural gas in the country.
