Supreme Court Approves Amendments to SC Rules 2025, Munir Paracha Named Senior Advocate

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has approved amendments to the Supreme Court Rules 2025 during a full court session chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.

Out of the 19 judges participating, 17 took part in the session, while Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Ayesha Malik did not participate. Previously, the Supreme Court had 24 judges; following the resignation of two judges and the transfer of three judges to the newly formed Constitutional Court, the current strength stands at 19.

The amendments follow a comprehensive review of the Supreme Court Rules 1980, prepared by a committee consisting of Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Irfan Saadat, Justice Naeem Afghan, and Justice Aqeel Abbasi. The revised rules aim to improve administrative processes and service delivery in the apex court.

In addition, Munir Paracha was approved for the status of Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court, recognizing his distinguished service and contribution to the legal profession.

Officials highlighted that the updated rules and appointments reflect the judiciary’s commitment to streamlining operations, maintaining transparency, and strengthening the rule of law.
