The Supreme Court of India is poised to announce its verdict on a petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to the erstwhile excise policy.
A two-judge bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had reserved the verdict on May 17, following extensive arguments from both sides. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the ED, alleging a criminal conspiracy involving AAP leaders to manipulate the liquor policy to benefit liquor sellers.
The case has garnered significant attention, with Kejriwal and other AAP leaders contesting the charges and asserting innocence. The ED's actions have been under scrutiny, particularly regarding the legality and procedural fairness of the arrest and subsequent investigation.
The verdict, awaited eagerly by political observers and the public alike, holds implications not only for Kejriwal but also for the broader discourse on governance and judicial oversight in high-profile cases.
