Tensions between the Mehr and Marfani communities have reached alarming levels after a deadly clash near Garhi Yasin, resulting in the deaths of three brothers from the Marfani family and one member from the Mehr community. The bodies of Hashim Marfani, Lalu Marfani, Babul Marfani, and Manthar Marfani were taken by armed men to Pir Shah Jalil, near Jagan, where they were buried. Saddam Mehr, the deceased from the Mehr faction, was buried in Pirhal Shah.
The violent altercation has left both sides on edge, with fears of further bloodshed looming. However, due to an unresolved boundary dispute between the Kiran Sharif and Agha Farm police stations, the five deaths could not be formally registered. The deadlock has left both factions in a state of heightened tension, with both sides refraining from taking further action for now.
In response to the escalating violence, the Mehr community in Garhi Yasin closed all businesses the following day as a sign of solidarity and protest. Residents of both the Mehr and Marfani communities have remained confined to their homes and villages, further contributing to the tense atmosphere.
District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zohor Ahmed Soomro addressed the issue, explaining that the boundary dispute between Kiran Sharif and Agha Farm police stations has now been resolved. He stated that both police station heads and the district magistrate have been called to the scene, clarifying that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Kiran Sharif police station. Soomro urged both parties to file their cases at the designated police station.
As the situation remains fragile, local authorities are on high alert, hoping to prevent further violence and maintain peace in the region.
