US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will meet with New York City’s newly elected mayor, Zahran Mamdani, on Friday, November 21, in the Oval Office.
According to reports, Mamdani, who recently made history as a Muslim candidate elected mayor of NYC, formally requested the meeting, and President Trump agreed.
Zahran Mamdani won the election against former New York governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Silva. The election campaign between Mamdani and Trump’s party was tense, with Mamdani criticizing Trump’s policies and Trump threatening to withhold federal funds from the city.
Despite their previously strained relationship, the scheduled meeting is seen as a formal step to establish communication and discuss city and federal matters, officials noted.
The meeting is set to take place in the Oval Office, underscoring the significance of this engagement between the White House and New York City leadership.
