Turkey Cuts All Trade Ties, Air and Sea Links with Israel

ANKARA: In a major diplomatic escalation, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Turkey has completely severed trade and transport relations with Israel, citing ongoing atrocities in Gaza and Israeli actions in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem.

Speaking in the Turkish parliament, Fidan said Turkish ships have been banned from docking at Israeli ports, while Israeli vessels are barred from entering Turkish ports. Similarly, Israeli aircraft have been prohibited from using Turkish airspace.

“The Turkish nation feels the pain and suffering of the Palestinians,” Fidan said. “Turkey rejects any plan to expel the Palestinians from their lands, no matter who presents this plan.”

A Strong Reaction to Gaza Crisis

Fidan clarified that this decision was taken in direct response to what he described as “the ongoing genocide in Gaza, Israel’s aggressive actions in the West Bank, and its unlawful practices in occupied Jerusalem.”

He also condemned the Israeli plan to permanently occupy the Gaza Strip with what he called “unlimited U.S. support”, stressing that such attempts were aimed at undermining the two-state solution.

Growing Tensions in the Region

Turkey, which had already scaled back defense and energy cooperation with Israel, has now taken its most drastic step yet by cutting off trade and air-sea links. This move comes amid mounting global criticism of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, which has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and displaced millions.

Diplomatic analysts note that this decision could have major implications for regional trade, energy routes, and Turkey’s ties with Western allies.

By taking this action, Turkey has positioned itself as one of the strongest voices in the Muslim world against Israel’s policies, further aligning its foreign policy with vocal support for Palestinian statehood.
