CRIME
At least two policemen were killed and 22 people, including four security personnel and 18 civilians, injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast at Rustam Bazaar, Wana, on Saturday.
According to police officials, the explosion occurred around 5:00 pm near the main entrance of a supermarket, where policemen were on routine patrol. The IED was reportedly detonated via remote control or a timed device.
Immediate Response:
Local residents, police teams, and rescue personnel rushed the injured to the district headquarters hospital, where an emergency was declared. The medical superintendent, Dr Jan Mohammad, confirmed that victims included children, the elderly, and young adults. An additional station house officer injured in critical condition was transferred to the South Waziristan Scouts Hospital.
Official Condemnation:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack, expressing grief for the families of the martyred officers and directed the inspector general to submit a detailed report. He also instructed authorities to provide the best medical care to all the injured, asserting that terrorist attacks would not weaken the resolve of the people or the government.
The blast follows another suspected vehicle-borne suicide attack near Chashma Sarbandki check post on Bannu-Miranshah Road in North Waziristan, which killed one civilian and injured 19 people, including two security personnel, just a day earlier.
Security forces have intensified patrols in the region following the twin attacks, highlighting ongoing threats from terrorist networks in South and North Waziristan.
