MUMBAI – A tragic incident struck during an under-19 cricket match in Mumbai, leaving the local cricket community in shock. Prasad Malgaonkar, a 60-year-old umpire with the Mumbai Cricket Association, collapsed while officiating a match between KRP XI CC and Crescent CC at the Sundar Cricket Club Ground during the Bhama Cup Under-19 tournament.

The incident occurred while Malgaonkar was officiating the 11th over of the match. After the second ball of the over was bowled, Malgaonkar suddenly fell to the ground, experiencing difficulty breathing. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead by the attending doctors.

Health Concerns Prior to the Incident

According to reports from Mid-Day, Malgaonkar had complained of stomach acid issues earlier in the day. He was advised by medical personnel to rest before the match, but he insisted on going ahead with his umpiring duties. Initially, he appeared fine for the first 10 overs, but his condition took a sudden turn for the worse after 10.2 overs when he collapsed.
