US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee Sparks Controversy with Comments on Biblical Borders

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has stirred controversy after suggesting that Israel could, according to biblical borders, control territories stretching from the Nile in Egypt to the Euphrates River in Iraq.

In a Friday interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Huckabee, a staunch pro-Israel conservative and evangelical Christian, said, “It would be fine if they took it all,” when asked about Israel’s current boundaries.

Carlson, surprised by the remark, pressed the ambassador on whether he truly endorsed Israeli expansion across the Middle East. Huckabee clarified that Israel itself was not seeking to occupy the region, describing his statement as “somewhat of a hyperbolic statement” while leaving room for the possibility based on religious interpretation.

He further added, “If they end up getting attacked by all these places, and they win that war, and they take that land, OK, that’s a whole other discussion.”

Huckabee has previously drawn controversy. In June 2025, he questioned the viability of an independent Palestinian state as a US foreign policy goal, prompting the State Department to clarify that he spoke for himself.

Asked whether his latest remarks indicated a shift in US policy, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce declined to comment, saying policy decisions are determined by the President and the White House.

Huckabee also proposed the possibility of creating land for Israel outside the Palestinian territories, questioning, “Does it have to be in Judea and Samaria?” — the biblical name favored by Israel for the West Bank, home to approximately three million Palestinians.

The comments come amid longstanding international concerns over Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories. In 2024, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands is illegal and must cease immediately.

Huckabee’s latest statements are likely to heighten tensions in US-Israel-Palestinian diplomacy, underscoring the influence of personal religious interpretations on high-profile diplomatic figures.
