US Plans to Expand Travel Ban to 30+ Countries: DHS

US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Naveem has stated that the United States is preparing to add more than 30 countries to its travel ban program. In an interview with Fox News, she confirmed that President Donald Trump’s administration is actively reviewing global entry policies.

“I won’t give a specific number, but it is more than 30, and President Trump will continue to review countries,” Naveem said, emphasizing that expanded restrictions may soon apply to citizens of several additional nations.

The renewed scrutiny follows a deadly shooting near the White House on November 26, in which a 29-year-old Afghan national, who had arrived in the US in 2021 and was granted asylum, killed one National Guardsman and injured another. Reports indicate the attacker had previously worked with multiple US government agencies, including the CIA.

In response, the US government temporarily suspended new visas and asylum cases for Afghans. President Trump also reinstated an existing ban on citizens from 19 countries.

Although Naveem did not disclose which countries are under consideration, earlier reporting from Reuters suggested that the total number of restricted countries could reach up to 36.
