US State Department Condemns Violence, Advocates Peaceful Protests in Pakistan

The US State Department has taken a clear stance against violent actions in Pakistan while advocating for peaceful protests and freedom of expression. This response came during a press briefing where spokesperson Matthew Miller addressed inquiries related to the May 9 attacks in Pakistan.

 

Miller emphasized the significant hardships faced by the Pakistani people due to terrorism, reiterating the US's support for legitimate freedom of expression. "We support legitimate freedom of expression, but we oppose violent acts. Protests should be peaceful, and governments should respect the rule of law and freedom of speech," Miller stated.

 

He further highlighted the ongoing efforts by the US to enhance capabilities and strengthen regional security in cooperation with the Government of Pakistan. "We regularly identify opportunities to enhance our capabilities and strengthen regional security with the Government of Pakistan," Miller added.
