Weekly Price Report: 14 Items Cheaper, 17 More Expensive in Pakistan

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released its weekly report on the prices of essential commodities, revealing mixed trends across the country.

According to the report, out of 51 monitored items, 14 commodities became cheaper, 17 saw price increases, while 20 remained stable. On a weekly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded an increase of 0.24 percent, while the annual rise stood at 3.75 percent.

Commodities that became cheaper include:

  • Tomatoes: -11.38%
  • Potatoes: -8.39%
  • Diesel: -5%
  • Sugar: -4.52%
  • Onions: -3.52%
  • Dal Mash: -1.29%
  • Garlic: -1.26%
  • Salt: -1.12%
  • Jaggery: -1.05%
  • LPG: -0.14%

Items that became more expensive include:

  • Chicken: +11.11%
  • Red chili powder: +3.08%
  • Eggs: +2.88%
  • Shirting: +1.64%
  • Firewood: +0.86%
  • Cooking oil (5L): +0.32%
  • Energy saver bulbs: +0.31%
  • Dal Moong: +0.31%
  • Mustard oil: +0.25%
  • Beef: +0.23%

The Consumer Price Index is calculated based on price movements of these 51 essential items across 50 markets in 17 major cities of Pakistan, providing insight into both weekly and annual inflation trends.
